SSL Certificates

An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) Certificate is a digital certificate that authenticates the identity of a website and encrypts communication between the server and the visitors’ browser. It establishes a secure communication channel which protects sensitive data, such as login details, payment details and other personal information.

When a user visits a website that has a valid SSL Certificate, the browser verifies that the certificate is authentic and that the website is safe, displaying a green padlock symbol in the browser bar.

SSL Certificate statuses

Once an SSL Certificate has been ordered, it may be assigned the following statuses

ACTIVE when the Certificate has been issued successfully
CERTIFICATE DISABLED when the Certificate has expired
PENDING ACTIVATION when payment has been received successfully. With this status, you can ask for the Certificate to be activated by entering the details of your domain and organization.
TO BE REFUNDED when the request to cancel the Certificate has been submitted and a refund is pending
ACTIVATION ERROR when the Certificate activation request was rejected by the CA as it could not be fulfilled: the domain or organization checks were not completed successfully.
ACTIVATION IN PROGRESS if the request has been accepted and domain validation is in progress, or when operators are waiting to verify the organization.
Some sub-statuses may be assigned, visible in the Customer Area:
  • The request has been accepted and domain control validation is in progress: the Applicant must validate the domain according to the chosen method, as the Certificate cannot be issued until validation is complete;
  • The request has been accepted and the organization checks are underway: when the CA is carrying out checks on the Applicant's organization (only for OV or EV Certificates);
  • The request has been accepted and the additional checks required for EV SSL Certificates are underway: when additional checks are being carried out by the CA, only necessary for EV SSL Certificates.
REVOKED when the Certificate has been revoked successfully
REFUNDED when the payment connected to the Certificate has been refunded
